Some sad stories have happy endings.

On October 7, 2023, nineteen-year-old IDF soldier Yosef Chaim Tzion from Itamar rushed directly into the line of fire to defend Israeli civilians during the devastating Hamas infiltration at Kibbutz Be’eri.

In the intense battles that followed, where over one hundred residents lost their lives, Tzion fought courageously alongside his comrades until he was critically injured.

He was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in serious condition, where doctors battled for his survival.

To save his life, medical personnel were forced to amputate his left leg.

Tzion spent months in a medically induced coma, enduring endless complex surgeries, prolonged ventilation, and an incredibly grueling physical rehabilitation process to regain his independence.

Refusing to let his physical limitations dictate his future, Tzion committed himself to rebuilding his life and contributing to the security and agricultural development of the region.

Prior to his injury, he had been one of the pioneering founders of Sde Efraim, an agricultural outpost located in western Binyamin.

Following his recovery, he focused his efforts on establishing and expanding a new agricultural community within Gush Talmonim, a bloc of communities in the same region.

This agricultural outpost serves as a critical strategic point for territorial security and local farming initiatives.

His journey reached a triumphant milestone in March 2026, when he announced his engagement to his partner, Nishmat.

On Thursday night, May 28, 2026, the couple was wed in an emotional ceremony held at the Sde Efraim outpost, surrounded by hundreds of rejoicing family members, friends, and fellow soldiers.

Standing tall under the chuppah with the assistance of crutches, Tzion recited the traditional vow to Jerusalem and shattered the wedding glass using his remaining right leg.

The wedding officiant, Rabbi Uzi Sharbaf, deeply moved the attendees by declaring that the hero standing before them possessed a single leg worth a thousand legs of ordinary people.

Today, Yosef Chaim and Nishmat reside in Gush Talmonim, cultivating the land and building a shared future defined by resilience, love, and national dedication.
