The joint military drill between Cairo and Beijing, codenamed Eagles of Civilization 2026, has ignited widespread geopolitical concern, with analysts questioning whether Egypt is preparing for potential future conflicts, including contingencies involving Israel.
Launched on August 23, 2026, the second iteration of this large-scale exercise marks a major escalation in defense cooperation between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The maneuvers, held at an Egyptian airbase, feature highly advanced simulated air battles, medium- and close-range combat, air superiority operations, and electronic warfare simulations.
The People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) executed a grueling 6,000-kilometer deployment across four nations to reach Egypt, showcasing China’s growing global power projection.
Beijing deployed heavy, twin-seat J-16 Hidden Dragon multirole fighter jets to the African continent for the first time.
The Chinese contingent also includes YU-20 aerial tankers, KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft, and Z-20 helicopters.
In these high-intensity simulated dogfights, the advanced Chinese J-16s faced off directly against the Egyptian Air Force’s premier French-made Dassault Rafale fighters and Russian-made MiG-29M platforms.

Security experts, including Egyptian Major General Samir Farag, note that Cairo is actively seeking to diversify its defense portfolio away from Western dependencies.
Rumors persist that Egypt is negotiating the purchase of Chinese J-10C fighters armed with long-range PL-15 air-to-air missiles.
For Tel Aviv, Egypt’s integration of unconstrained Chinese electronic warfare technology poses a direct threat to Israel’s traditional qualitative military edge (QME).
While Cairo officially maintains that the maneuvers are purely defensive and intended to bolster combat readiness, the drill serves as a clear warning that Egypt is systematically preparing its military forces for any future regional contingency.

There certain things the Egyption Army overlooks, but they dont want these refugees making more trouble in their country . . as for Egypt being trusted as an ally, you are right. Although Israel Egypt and Greece will/is becoming very wealthy when the Oil Rig becomes more active. And dont forget, Israel left Turkey out of the deal because of their rhetoric (although the old Sinail guy Biden wanted Israel to GIVE TURKEY STATUS). . Which explains alot of their present rhetoric
