Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is pressing ahead with its offensive against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, even as reports circulate of a possible ceasefire driven by U.S. pressure tied to broader negotiations with Iran.

“I strengthen the residents of the north who continue to stand firm,” Netanyahu said, adding that Israeli forces are “continuing to strike Hezbollah,” with fighting now focused on Bint Jbeil.

Describing the town as a key Hezbollah stronghold, Netanyahu said, “Bint Jbeil was Hezbollah’s capital in southern Lebanon,” referencing a speech by Hassan Nasrallah who once described Israel as “a spider’s web.”

“We are about to defeat Bint Jbeil,” he said. “We are essentially going to eliminate this major Hezbollah stronghold.”

Netanyahu also said he had instructed the IDF to expand the security zone and extend it eastward toward the slopes of Mount Hermon, in part to “better assist our Druze brothers in times of distress.”

At the same time, he confirmed that talks with Lebanon are underway for the first time in decades, saying the negotiations are taking place “because we are very strong.”

“There are two main goals,” Netanyahu said. “The dismantling of Hezbollah, and a sustainable peace. Peace through strength.”

His remarks come amid growing reports of a potential ceasefire in Lebanon, with regional media citing Iranian sources claiming a truce could take effect imminently “following Iranian pressure.” Israeli officials have denied any decision on a ceasefire, while the IDF has said operations will continue until directed otherwise by the political leadership.

Netanyahu also addressed ongoing U.S. contacts with Iran, saying Washington is keeping Israel closely informed.

“Our goals and those of the United States are aligned,” he said, outlining demands that include the removal of enriched uranium from Iran, an end to its enrichment capabilities, and the reopening of key maritime routes.

Still, he cautioned against drawing conclusions about the trajectory of the talks. “It is too early to say how this will end,” Netanyahu said, adding that Israel remains prepared “for any scenario” if fighting resumes.

Ce n’est que de la fanfaronnade, le cessez-le-feu est déjà en vigueur. C’est la énième fois qu’un cessez-le-feu est mis en place alors que le hezbollah ou le hamas sont sur le point d’êtres anéantis. Bizarre bizarre.
