Israeli forces operating in southern Syria overnight captured Iranian terrorists, an IDF spokesperson announced Wednesday morning.
Forces from the IDF’s Golani Brigade under the command of 210th Division and in cooperation with field operatives from the IDF’s covert military intelligence force, Unit 504, completed an overnight operation to arrest a terrorist cell operated by Iran in the Huaran area of southern Syria.
Specifically, the IDF raids centered on the areas of Umm al-Luqs and Ein al‑Bassali.
According to an army spokesperson, the operation was conducted following several weeks of intelligence gathering and interrogations, and culminated in the arrest of multiple Iranian-backed terrorists.
“Following intelligence gathered during interrogations over the past few weeks, brigade forces completed a focused overnight operation and arrested several terrorists,” the army said.
In addition, during the operation, Israeli forces discovered weapons in the area where the terrorists were apprehended, including several firearms and grenades.
“We’ve just completed another successful night of operations,” said Lt. Col. (Res.) M., commander of Battalion 474.
“We arrested an Iranian terror cell based on received intelligence. We will not allow terrorist organizations or hostile actors to establish themselves in the area. We will operate day and night to ensure the residents of the Golan Heights can sleep peacefully.”
“In addition to the wanted individuals we arrested, we also seized weapons—guns, grenades, and other arms.”
Following the ouster of the Assad regime last December, Israel has operated repeatedly inside southern Syria, and carried out hundreds of airstrikes.
Last month, Israeli warplanes and artillery struck 10 targets during 6 separate attacks inside Syria, including several in the Daraa and Quneitra districts in southern Syria.
