The IDF recently provided detailed assessments indicating that Hezbollah is facing a severe and desperate shortage of weapons and ammunition as of May 2026.

According to high-ranking military sources cited by Al Hadath, the group’s military activity has seen a significant decline, primarily due to the near-total depletion of its strategic stockpiles.

A critical factor in this logistical crisis is the reported loss of the Tehran–Damascus–Beirut corridor, a vital supply route that previously served as the primary conduit for Iranian arms.

The situation has been further exacerbated by the closure of the Beirut-Damascus International Highway since April 16, 2026, following targeted Israeli airstrikes near Dahr al Baidar.

The IDF, under the command of Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, has intensified operations to dismantle remaining infrastructure, with the 91st Galilee Division and other units uncovering massive quantities of weaponry hidden in civilian areas.

Recent reports from the IDF highlight the discovery of anti-tank missiles, explosive devices, and small arms caches in southern Lebanese villages such as Aadshit al-Qusayr.

Since the start of Operation Roar of the Lion, IDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin noted that over 4,300 terror infrastructures have been destroyed and more than 1,400 Hezbollah operatives eliminated.

In response to these shortages, Hezbollah has reportedly shifted its tactics, conserving traditional ammunition and relying heavily on low-cost, domestically produced technology.

This includes a surge in the use of first-person view drones and fiber-optic guided UAVs that are difficult for standard electronic jamming systems to disrupt.

Despite the group’s claims of being prepared for a long battle, military analysts at the Alma Research and Education Center suggest that the organization is struggling to maintain a steady tempo of attacks.

This convergence of supply chain collapses and systematic IDF dismantlement has left the organization in a precarious state, searching for alternative smuggling routes to replenish its nearly depleted arsenals.
