IDF forces thwarted an attempted weapons smuggling operation along Israel’s eastern border on Tuesday, preventing dozens of firearms from entering the country.
According to the IDF, military surveillance units identified a drone crossing into Israeli territory from the east in an apparent attempt to smuggle weapons.
Following the detection, troops from the Yoav Brigade tracked and intercepted the drone.
After downing the aircraft, the forces located and seized 40 pistols that had been carried by the drone.
The IDF said the weapons were transferred to Israeli security authorities for further investigation and handling.
The military continues to operate along Israel’s borders to prevent the smuggling of weapons and to counter threats aimed at undermining security inside the country.
