IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held a strategic discussion Sunday with reserve brigade commanders, joined by senior military leadership including Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai, Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan, Head of the Personnel Directorate Maj. Gen. Dado Bar-Kalifa, and additional commanders.
Opening the meeting, Zamir underscored the central role played by reserve forces throughout the war, stressing their importance to the IDF’s operational backbone.
“I know how much responsibility rests on your shoulders,” Zamir said. “The war showed all of us just how essential the reserve brigades, and especially their commanders, are to the operational core of the IDF.”
He emphasized the military’s responsibility to support reservists following prolonged service, addressing fatigue while strengthening professional training alongside continued operational activity.
“Thanks to you, we achieved operational successes across all combat arenas,” he added, praising reserve commanders and soldiers for their contribution to wartime achievements.
Zamir noted that the IDF is working “in an unprecedented manner” to expand benefits and protections for reservists and ensure their needs are addressed.
The chief of staff also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve flexibility for reserve units while maintaining clear professional standards.
“We will provide flexibility, but commanders must ensure the standards, values, and norms of their frameworks,” he said, stressing the importance of restoring the military to full readiness.
As part of the IDF’s multi-year “Hosen” development plan, Zamir outlined efforts to strengthen ground combat power, including expanding force structure, improving mobility and strike capabilities, integrating robotic systems, and enhancing the readiness of reserve equipment depots.
“We are in a multi-front campaign, and 2026 will continue to be a year of high operational tempo,” he said, adding that the IDF will maintain offensive pressure aimed at weakening threats and defeating enemy forces along active fronts.
Zamir also announced that improvised units formed during the early stages of the war would be gradually dissolved or formally integrated where operationally necessary, emphasizing a return to structured and professional force organization.
“I salute and appreciate everyone who stepped forward and contributed,” he concluded. “We must now continue to act in a systematic and professional manner.”
