The Israeli Ministry of Defense has formally initiated conceptual research into developing an indigenous, pilotless combat aircraft modeled after the stealth capabilities of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II.

According to statements verified by senior defense officials in July 2026, the ambitious project forms the cornerstone of a new ten-year strategic military blueprint designed to shift the country toward complete domestic production and reduce long-term reliance on United States foreign military financing.

The initiative aims to merge fifth-generation low-observable airframe design with a centralized, onboard artificial intelligence core capable of managing complex flight logistics and tactical maneuvering entirely without human intervention.

Unlike current remotely piloted unmanned aerial vehicles in the Israel Defense Forces inventory—such as the Israel Aerospace Industries Heron TP or Elbit Systems Hermes 900, which rely on continuous human operator satellite links from ground control stations—this autonomous jet will utilize advanced sensor fusion to process localized radar, electronic warfare, and infrared data streams in real time.

Human oversight will be restricted solely to high-level mission authorization and lethal engagement confirmation.

The tactical doctrine envisions this uncrewed platform operating either as an independent deep-strike asset within highly contested, heavily defended enemy airspace or as an autonomous “loyal wingman” networked alongside the Israeli Air Force’s existing fleet of crewed F-35I Adir fighters.
