Hamas terrorists concealed in a tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip ambushed IDF troops from the 7th Brigade during a patrol Monday morning, in what the Israeli military said was a serious and deliberate violation of the Gaza ceasefire.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, four terrorists emerged from a hidden tunnel shaft in eastern Rafah and opened fire on the force.
IDF troops responded immediately, returning fire and killing all four attackers. Video footage released by the military shows an IDF helicopter assisting ground forces during the engagement.
Following the incident, Israeli forces began expanded searches of the area, including within the tunnel network used by the terrorists, to ensure no additional threats remained.
The IDF condemned the ambush as a “blatant violation” of the October ceasefire agreement.
“IDF forces under Southern Command are deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to act to remove any immediate threat,” the military said.
