The IDF on Wednesday struck several senior Hamas military commanders in Gaza, responding to yet another breach of the ceasefire by the terror group.
Israeli aircraft targeted sites in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood and in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, hitting the Hamas Gaza deputy brigade commander, the Zeitoun battalion commander, and the head of the terror group’s naval array, according to Palestinian reports.
The strikes came after Hamas terrorists opened sniper fire at Israeli forces near Khan Younis from beyond the Israeli-controlled side of the yellow line. The IDF said no soldiers were hurt.
“IDF troops were fired upon in a blatant violation of the ceasefire. The forces responded precisely against the source of the fire, targeting Hamas military infrastructure,” the army said.
This incident followed an earlier one in the northern Strip, where a Hamas terrorist crossed the yellow line and posed an immediate threat before being eliminated. Several additional terrorists who crossed with him fled back into the area.
Gaza sources claimed at least five Palestinians were killed in the subsequent Israeli strike on a structure in Zeitoun.
In the Khan Younis sector, Palestinian reports said at least three more Hamas terrorists were killed in the al-Mawasi strike, part of the enclave still controlled by the terror group.
Medical officials in Gaza claimed the day’s strikes resulted in at least 28 Palestinian fatalities.
These attacks demonstrate Hamas’s ongoing pattern of blatant ceasefire violations, including repeated attacks on Israeli forces and the continued holding of the bodies of three hostages.
The IDF reaffirmed its commitment to neutralizing threats and will continue to operate with full force to protect Israel and its citizens.
