Many Israeli civilian tech companies have recently pivoted into defense largely because the war created an urgent need for rapid innovation that traditional defense contractors couldn’t meet alone.

Startups with expertise in AI, robotics, sensors, autonomy, and cybersecurity suddenly found their commercial technologies were directly applicable to battlefield challenges.

Many were approached by the Ministry of Defense or the IDF to adapt existing products for operational use, while others shifted voluntarily as demand for civilian tech collapsed in some sectors.

The defense market offered immediate funding, faster adoption cycles, and a sense of national responsibility that accelerated the transition.

Here are 10 Israeli tech companies that have recently pivoted from civilian to defense applications, based on the latest reporting about Israel’s rapidly expanding dual‑use and defense tech ecosystem.

  1. Heven Drones
Originally a commercial hydrogen‑powered drone company, Heven shifted into defense with its Raider tactical drone, now used for long‑endurance ISR and logistics missions.

  2. AXON Vision
Started as a civilian AI video analytics company; now provides AI‑based situational awareness systems for armored vehicles and defense platforms.

  3. infiniDome
Initially built GPS protection tech for commercial drones and autonomous vehicles; pivoted to defense by supplying anti‑jamming systems for UAVs and military ground vehicles.

  4. SIGA OT Solutions
Originally focused on industrial OT cybersecurity for civilian critical infrastructure; now provides anomaly detection systems for military bases and defense facilities.

  5. Sky Sapience
Developed tethered drones for commercial surveillance; expanded into defense for persistent ISR missions for militaries and homeland security agencies.

  6. Kela Technologies
Founded as a commercial data analytics startup; now provides battlefield intelligence platforms and real‑time targeting support.

  7. Dozens of Innofense‑backed startups (e.g., AI, robotics, sensors)
The Defense Ministry’s Innofense program identifies civilian startups with potential military applications—over 300 are now working with the IDF, many of which pivoted from purely civilian markets after 2023.

  8. Dual‑use AI startups highlighted by Startup Nation Central
Many AI and robotics companies originally serving commercial sectors (logistics, mobility, automation) have reclassified themselves as defense tech companies in the updated Defense Tech Map.

  9. Autonomous systems startups working on GPS‑denied navigation
Several companies originally building autonomy stacks for commercial drones or vehicles have pivoted to defense, now developing targeting and navigation systems for contested environments.

  10. Quantum sensing and tunnel detection startups
Originally founded for industrial sensing and geophysical applications, these companies are now adapting their technologies for military tunnel detection and subterranean intelligence.
