The Israel Defense Forces continued counterterror operations in northern Samaria this week, ordering the demolition of several structures in the Nur al-Shams refugee camp due to what the military described as a clear and urgent operational necessity.
According to the IDF, the decision was issued by Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt entrenched terror networks operating from densely populated areas in the region.
The camps in northern Samaria, including Nur al-Shams, have been identified by Israeli security officials as major hubs for terrorist activity, weapons storage, and the production of explosive devices.
The military said its forces remain active in shaping the security environment to prevent terrorists from reestablishing themselves in the camps and across northern Samaria. Even a year after the launch of expanded IDF operations in the area, troops continue to uncover ammunition, weapons, and explosive charges that pose a direct threat to Israeli forces and hinder operational freedom.
Over the past month alone, IDF units operating in the camps located additional newly planted explosive devices intended for use against soldiers.
In light of these findings, the Civil Administration earlier this week notified several Nur al-Shams residents of the planned demolitions, allowing time for personal belongings to be removed. The IDF stressed that the decision was made after careful consideration, that alternative options were examined, and that the scope of the demolitions was limited to the minimum required for operational security.
Israeli officials emphasized that the measures are aimed solely at neutralizing terror infrastructure and protecting both Israeli forces and civilians, as the IDF continues its campaign to dismantle terrorist networks operating from within civilian areas.
