Israel has demonstrated a remarkable ability to take American military hardware and enhance it with indigenous technology to meet the specific demands of high-intensity regional conflict.

This process of “Israelization” often turns standard-issue US platforms into world-leading systems that, in turn, provide valuable feedback and technological advancements back to the American defense industry.

One of the most prominent examples is the F-15 Baz Meshopar, a comprehensive modernization of the American F-15 Eagle.

Israel upgraded these first- and second-generation jets with indigenous glass cockpits, advanced radars, and compatibility with Israeli-made Python missiles, extending their service life decades beyond their original design.

Similarly, the F-16I Sufa is a heavily modified variant of the American F-16 Fighting Falcon, featuring Elbit Systems’ electronic warfare suites and conformal fuel tanks that drastically increase its operational range without compromising its agility.

Even the newest F-35I Adir includes unique Israeli-developed command and control systems and electronic warfare capabilities that are not found on standard US F-35 models.

In the realm of armored warfare, the Magach 7 represents the pinnacle of Israeli modifications to the American M60 Patton tank.

By adding thick passive armor, improved engines, and advanced fire control systems, Israel transformed an aging Cold War tank into a modern main battle tank capable of surviving modern anti-tank threats.

Finally, the Popeye (AGM-142 Have Nap) missile began as a joint venture that saw Israel take American missile concepts and develop a highly precise, long-range standoff weapon.

The United States eventually integrated these Israeli-refined missiles into its own B-52 bomber fleet, illustrating how Israeli improvements often flow back to enhance the American military itself.

Through these five examples, Israel has proven that it is not merely a recipient of American technology, but a vital partner in its evolution and perfection.

American military experts are well aware of this unique Israeli ability.

General (Ret.) David Deptula, a former U.S. Air Force intelligence chief, noted that Israeli modifications are invaluable, stating, “The Israelis are the world masters at taking a platform and tailoring it to their specific needs, often developing software and hardware enhancements that we later incorporate back into our own systems.”
