As part of their first deployment to Syria, troops from the Hasmonean Brigade carried out surveillance missions, gathering vital intelligence to prevent terrorism from taking root in the volatile region.

Zamir said the Hasmonean Brigade is a testament to the compatibility between an ultra-Orthodox lifestyle and military service, assuring them that anyone who enlists as Haredi will remain Haredi.

The Hasmonean Brigade was named after the dynasty that began after the Jews threw off the yoke of Hellenistic rule in the Maccabean Revolt (167 BCE to 141 BCE) against the Seleucid Empire.

In tandem with the recruitment push, the IDF completed the issuance of approximately 7,000 recruitment orders to non-commissioned officers from the Haredi sector, targeting future enlistment cycles.
