The Israel Defense Forces said it identified a failed rocket launch from the Gaza City area toward Israeli territory on Thursday. The projectile fell inside the Gaza Strip, landing near a hospital.

“In a rapid response, the IDF precisely struck the launch site,” the military said, stressing that it “views with great severity any attempt by terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip to carry out terror attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians.”

It marked the second ceasefire violation from Gaza within 24 hours.

On Wednesday, Israeli forces eliminated a key Hamas terrorist after gunmen fired at an area where IDF troops were operating in the northern Gaza Strip, according to a joint statement by the IDF and the Shin Bet.

The terrorist had been involved in directing attacks against Israeli forces, the statement said, adding that the shooting constituted “a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement.”
