The IDF killed a senior Hezbollah commander in a strike in the Deir al-Zahrani area of southern Lebanon, the military said Sunday.
Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah’s Badr Unit, was involved in planning and advancing attacks against IDF forces operating in the security zone, including the launch of explosive drones at troops in southern Lebanon.
According to the IDF, Alaa had commanded several Hezbollah combat sectors in recent years and was involved in operations targeting both Israeli forces and civilians.
The military said the strike was carried out in response to an attack by Hezbollah against IDF troops operating in the security zone. His death is expected to disrupt the Badr Unit’s command and operational capabilities, according to the military.
The killing comes after the recent elimination of Ali Samir al-Hajj Hassan, a battalion commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Force, who was killed at a command center in Ansar.
The IDF said it would continue to act against threats posed by Hezbollah and prevent the group from targeting Israeli civilians and military personnel.
