Israeli forces eliminated a terrorist who crossed the security boundary and approached IDF troops in southern Gaza on Sunday in what the military described as another violation of ceasefire understandings, the Israel Defense Forces said.
According to the IDF, troops from the 188th Armored Brigade Combat Team operating in southern Gaza identified a suspect who crossed the Yellow Line and advanced toward their position in a manner that posed an immediate threat. Soldiers responded quickly, eliminating the terrorist in order to remove the danger. No Israeli casualties were reported.
The military said Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area in accordance with existing agreements and will continue operating to neutralize any immediate threats against Israeli troops.
The incident comes amid ongoing security challenges along the border, where Israeli officials say terrorist organizations have repeatedly attempted to exploit ceasefire conditions to approach Israeli positions or carry out attacks.
Separately, the IDF announced the dismantling of a significant underground tunnel route in Rafah used by terrorist operatives. The tunnel, stretching approximately one kilometer, was uncovered during sustained counter-terror operations and included underground hideouts as well as weapons storage areas.
Over the past three months, Israeli forces operating in southern Gaza have conducted intensive counter-terror missions targeting underground networks and terrorist infrastructure.
During that period, troops eliminated dozens of terrorists operating beneath the surface and dismantled hundreds of terror infrastructure sites, significantly degrading militant capabilities in the Rafah sector, according to the IDF.
The military emphasized that operations will continue as necessary to protect Israeli forces and civilians, stressing that any immediate threat encountered along the security line will be met with decisive action.
