Israeli police and IDF forces thwarted an attempted weapons smuggling operation overnight along Israel’s eastern border, intercepting a drone carrying firearms into the country.
According to authorities, the aerial surveillance and monitoring system identified a drone that crossed into Israeli territory from the east in an apparent attempt to smuggle weapons.
Following the detection, forces from Israel Defense Forces Division 96, together with the Border Unit (YAGAL) of the Israel Police Northern District, were deployed to the area.
After conducting ground searches, the forces located the drone and confirmed it was carrying 12 handguns. The seized weapons were transferred to Israel Police custody for further investigation and processing.
Israeli security officials have warned in recent months of increased attempts to smuggle weapons into Israel using drones, particularly along border areas, as part of broader efforts by criminal and terror-linked networks to arm themselves.
