The Israel Defense Forces said Monday that forces operating in southern Gaza identified a terrorist who crossed the designated buffer line and approached Israeli troops in a manner that posed an immediate threat.
According to the military, soldiers from the 188th Brigade combat team detected the suspect as he moved toward their position.
Shortly after the identification, the Israel Air Force, acting under the direction of the ground forces, carried out a targeted strike to neutralize the threat.
The IDF said the action was taken to prevent harm to troops operating in the area and to maintain security along the buffer zone.
Southern Command forces remain deployed in southern Gaza in accordance with existing agreements, the military added, and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat to Israeli forces.
