Israel has received three coffins containing the bodies of deceased hostages from Gaza, a move coordinated through the Red Cross and handed over to Israeli forces and the Shin Bet.
The coffins were escorted by IDF troops into Israeli territory and are now on their way to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine, where identification procedures will be conducted.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, “Israel received, through the Red Cross, the coffins of three deceased hostages, handed over to the IDF and Shin Bet within the Gaza Strip. From there, they will be transferred to Israel, where they will be received in a military ceremony with the Chief Military Rabbi, before being delivered to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine at the Ministry of Health.”
The IDF added that representatives are accompanying the families of the deceased and called on the public to exercise sensitivity, noting that official identification will first be communicated to the families.
“The IDF urges the public to act with sensitivity and wait for official identification, which will first be communicated to the families of the deceased hostages,” the statement said.
The handover comes after Hamas earlier claimed to have “discovered” the bodies of three hostages.
This follows repeated returns of remains that did not belong to any hostages and a recent staged recovery hoax, in which drone footage showed the group presenting what were actually additional remains of previously returned hostages.
Hamas continues to violate the ceasefire agreement by delaying the return of all remaining hostage bodies, and Israel remains determined to recover every hostage and ensure they receive a proper burial.
