The IDF Manpower Directorate on Tuesday released its casualty figures for 2025, reflecting a year marked by sustained combat, heavy operational strain, and profound national loss.
During the past year, 151 IDF soldiers serving in regular service, career service, and the reserves lost their lives.
Of those, 88 soldiers were killed during operational activity, three in terror- and enemy-related incidents, 15 due to illness, and 24 in various accidents. The accidents included 17 civilian traffic accidents, one military traffic accident, one weapons-related incident, and five other accidents. No fatalities were recorded during training exercises.
In addition, 21 cases of suspected suicide were investigated or remain under investigation. These cases involved 11 conscripted soldiers, nine reservists, and one career soldier.
Head of the IDF Manpower Directorate, Brig. Gen. Amir Vadmani, addressed the figures, describing them as deeply painful.
“151 fallen IDF soldiers were added this year—a painful and difficult number. Every fallen soldier is an entire world,” Vadmani said. “With them, 151 families have joined the circle of bereavement. We embrace them and are committed to providing the full professional and human support available to us.”
Vadmani said the IDF is continuously reassessing its systems and preparations in light of the prolonged demands placed on its personnel.
“We are constantly examining ourselves and preparing in a meaningful way for the coming year, with the understanding that many soldiers require adjustments to our programs after the heavy burden of the past two years,” he said.
He added that the IDF is engaged in broad efforts to address the long-term effects of the war, including the treatment and rehabilitation of the wounded and expanded mental health support.
“Suicide prevention officers have been appointed in every IDF unit to fully implement the directorate’s programs and objectives,” Vadmani said. “This reflects our deep responsibility to safeguard the lives of our soldiers.”
The IDF stated that it will continue to act with determination in defending the State of Israel, while maintaining a profound commitment to the welfare of its servicemen and women, and honoring the memory of those who fell in its defense.
