Tensions along Israel’s northern border have reached a boiling point as a new round of all-out war with Hezbollah appears increasingly inevitable.
For weeks, the Israeli Air Force has carried out near-daily strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, with both the frequency and intensity of operations rising. The terror group continues to rebuild and expand its military infrastructure close to Israel’s border, in violation of international agreements.
Earlier this week, Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that “Hezbollah is playing with fire,” as the Iranian-backed organization ramped up provocations. On Thursday, Hezbollah reportedly sent a message to Lebanese authorities signaling that it would respond to Israeli strikes against its operatives, though the group stopped short of declaring full-scale war.
The IDF issued multiple evacuation warnings for several villages in southern Lebanon ahead of the strikes. The military also announced that it would soon strike Hezbollah military infrastructure in several named locations inside southern Lebanon.
A senior Israeli military official emphasized that the IDF “continues enforcement operations to prevent Hezbollah’s renewed buildup,” adding that the army has no intention of escalating but remains fully prepared for any eventuality.
Shortly afterward, the IDF confirmed a series of widespread airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions across southern Lebanon. According to the military, “The IDF, led by the Northern Command and utilizing the Air Force, struck terrorist infrastructure and several weapons depots belonging to the Radwan Force in southern Lebanon.”
The statement continued: “Hezbollah continues its efforts to rebuild terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon and to restore the capabilities of the Radwan Force in order to harm the State of Israel. Prior to the strikes, measures were taken to minimize harm to civilians, including the evacuation of residents, the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.”
The army noted that the targeted weapons depots were deliberately placed within civilian areas, describing them as “yet another example of Hezbollah’s cynical use of Lebanese civilians as human shields.” The military said these sites violated understandings between Israel and Lebanon and posed a direct threat to the local population.
“The IDF will continue to act to remove any threat to the State of Israel,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the IDF continues to prepare for broader military action in Lebanon aimed at weakening Hezbollah and compelling both the group and the Lebanese government to agree to a stable security arrangement with Israel. Israeli officials told local media that “plans already exist” as the Security Cabinet convened Thursday evening to discuss the escalating situation.
The recent strikes are intended to send a clear signal that unless Hezbollah disarms and removes its military infrastructure from along the border, Israel is prepared to take further steps. The IDF will continue to enforce its security policy in the north, striking Hezbollah targets and preventing the terror group from rebuilding its capabilities near Israeli territory.
