Hezbollah fired roughly 100 rockets toward communities in northern Israel on Wednesday evening, as the Iranian-backed terror group formally announced the launch of a new campaign against Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces said the rockets were launched toward several areas across the country. Air defense systems worked to intercept the incoming fire while residents were instructed to follow Home Front Command safety guidelines.

“In the last few minutes, the Hezbollah terrorist organization launched rockets toward several areas in the State of Israel,” the IDF said.

At the same time, the Israeli Air Force began striking Hezbollah launch sites and infrastructure across Lebanon.

“Alongside the interception efforts, the Air Force is currently striking launchers and additional Hezbollah infrastructure throughout Lebanon,” the military said.

IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said the rocket fire reflects Hezbollah’s response to the sustained pressure Israeli forces have placed on the group.

“The rocket fire from Hezbollah is a reaction to the severe damage and pressure we are applying to them,” Defrin said, adding that Israel remains prepared on both the defensive and offensive fronts.

“We are well prepared in defense and continue to strike in Iran and against Hezbollah constantly. We entered this campaign in a calculated way, and we have an orderly plan,” he said.

In response to the barrage, the IDF intensified airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon, including strikes on the Dahieh district of Beirut, the group’s main base of operations in the capital.

Earlier, IDF Arabic-language spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee issued a warning to residents in the area, urging them to evacuate ahead of further strikes.

“The IDF will act with great force against Hezbollah facilities, assets and weapons,” Adraee said. “We call on you to evacuate immediately.”

A senior Israeli official said the coming hours could prove decisive in shaping the course of the fighting.

“The next 24 hours will significantly shape the continuation of the campaign in Lebanon,” the official said. “Hezbollah is bringing about its own end with its own hands.”
